Weekend Review

We had a great relaxing weekend. It snowed here on Saturday and I didn't get out of my PJs. It was grand.

But I did make 2 new recipes that I wanted to share: Pioneer Woman's Ranch Style Chicken and Lightened Up Double Cheese Macaroni I got off of Macaroni and Cheesecakes' blog. Both were very good. I wanted to try a stovetop macaroni and cheese so I picked this recipe. But I still think I like the recipe I stole from my mom for baked macaroni and cheese better. But I am sure I will try this one again.

Today we went out for brunch (the hubby got breakfast and I got lunch) at Cracker Barrel. We did a few errands and then came back home. I have done some school work and the hubby made chili for dinner.
So basically it was a very lazy weekend. Well off to watch Cake Boss where they are making a life size race car!

It's Friday!!

WOO HOO!  It's Friday!  So excited for the weekend and hopefully a little sleeping in.  The grand things about this weekend is that we have NO plans!  Now I do have some things that I would like to accomplish,.  but I am excited to spend the weekend with the husband doing what we want to do.  Maybe he will agree with me and decide that doing some house projects is what he wants to do!  Maybe he will agree with me if I tell him I will make him a good dinner!

I have also been meaning to go to the grocery store since Monday so I best get on that because we are getting low on edible food.  I have also been meaning to do laundry since Sunday so I best get on that too.  Oh the responsibilities of being an adult...the chores never end!

I am participate in the Love Swap that Katie at Loves of Life is hosting so I have a little shopping to do.  I also wanted to go shopping for some jeans.  A girl at work told me that The Today Show did a segment on jeans and tested a ton of different jeans on different types of figures.  I guess New York and Company was found to have the best jeans.  They showed how they fit on sizes 00-14.  I hate buying jeans because I struggle to find some that fit so I thought I would give it a try.

Well you find folks have a great weekend!

I got a little complaining to do....

If you have read this blog before you know that I am working on getting my MBA. I have 13 weeks left and I will be DONE! In undergrad I was a marketing major. During the beginning of my undergrad years I found out that professors love to put students into groups. I have heard the saying "Working in groups will help you prepare for the workforce" too many times to count. So in undergrad I worked part time and was involved in several things so working in groups could be a little challenging. However, most group members lived close so it wasn't too bad. Some of the projects I had to do were really involved so working in groups helped divide the workload a little.

So now I am in grad school and some of the professor still believes working in groups in beneficial. Well let me tell you-it is a pain in the ass. The graduate school that I go to has two campuses that are about 50 miles apart.. A lot of the classes also alternate which campuses they are being held and some are always offered at one campus. This causes a lot of students to have to travel to attend classes. So doing group projects and presentations while living an hour or more away can be a challenge.

Of course you have the internet to correspond with but you can only do so much. Some projects need to be done together because it is hard to divide up the material. Even if you can do it apart, it takes someone willing to organize everyone’s part and deleting sections that are repetitive. This can be a time consuming job.

Bring into the mix having a full time job and attempting to have a life. At this point groups majorly suck!
Well this semester both classes require groups. The first one actually picks the groups for you. Grand! That should be a ton of fun trying to come up with a paper and presentation with a group of people I don’t no (NOT!)!

The other class had us pick our groups. Well I don't know anyone in this class because it was an elective class and most of them are getting their Masters in Human Resources. So the two guys beside me asked me to be in their group. I said okay-what else was I going to do? After asking their names I found out that one lives an hour away and other lives an hour and a half way. Again, great!

We get our first assignment. It is a one page summary of a software system. Why does this need to be done in a group?? How do you split up a one page summary? Ridiculous that this would even be assigned as group work. And of course the professor gives us less than week. We can't meet before class because everyone is trying to get their after work. We can't do it after because the other two people are already getting home so late. So I just sucked it up and did it without being asked. I figured might as well get it out of the way and maybe it will get me off the hook for the next one and they can do it.

But back to my original point about professors assigning group work to simulate the workforce. Bull! If my employer wants me to do team or group work at work, fine-no problem. The difference is that is my job and what I am paid to do. I am on their time I will do what they ask. Time is allotted for us to work together for a project or presentation. However, trying to get 3+ people together to work on a school project outside of work who have families and are working full time can be a huge challenge. What ends up happening is one or two people do the majority of the project while the whole group gets the credit including the freeloaders.

However, I do agree that groups can be beneficial in large projects and that taking a combination of people can make for a better project and good learning experience.  But a 1 page summary paper??

So sorry about my rant. I think these 13 weeks are going to be long ones!

Weedend Recap

Monday again?   Its like the weekends get shorter and the work week gets longer!

We had a great relaxing weekend.  We didn't do too much so that was great.  This was our third weekend home this month!  That NEVER happens!

Saturday the hubby had to work in the morning and that afternoon we watched WVU basketball.  That evening we went to dinner and a Marshall basketball game with some friends.  We are good friends with this couple and last week she found out she was having TWINS!  That sure came as a surprise to them!

On Sunday the husband made me breakfast!  He likes to do this when we are home on the weekends and I don't complain one bit!  That afternoon I went the movies and an early dinner with two of my good friends.  I don't get to see either of them nearly enough so it was great to catch up.  We saw It's Complicated.  It was a good movie and offered lots of laughs.

This weekend I also DVRed the Pregnancy Pact on Lifetime.  It is based on a true story about a group of teenage girls making a pact to get pregnant at the same time.  You may remember this-it happened in mid 2008 and made the news.  I actually don't remember the event.  The movie was eye opening and if you get a chance I would recommend watching it.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Flashback Friday

I have been thinking recently alot about the happiest day of my life to date-my wedding day.  Almost a year and half ago I married a wonderful, caring, generous man.  I loved my wedding and will always cherish that day.  So here are a few pictures of me and my husband on our wedding day.

I'm not a liar anymore!

So in the past the weight section on my drivers license has not been entirely truthful.  Well about 2 years ago when I got my license renewed I decided that I probably should change it a little because at that point it was a good ways off from my actual weight  So I went up 10 pounds, but still not showing my actual weight.

Well I am happy to report that my current actual weight is 6 pounds under the new drivers license weight, meaning 4 pounds away from the weight I put on my license when I was 16!  So I am excited to report that I am not a liar anymore!

So while I haven't been doing the best at eating I still haven't gained any weight back but I haven't really lost either.  I still have been working out 2 days a week with the husband.  I just need to get back on track with the whole eating thing.

My original goal was to lose 20 pounds.  This started at the end of September.  I am currently down 15 pounds.  My new goal is to lose another 15-20 pounds.  It is going to be a little work but I can do it...hopefully!

List post

  • Three day weekends are the best, especially when you can spend some quality time with your husband and close friends.
  • Classes are going to be hard this semester.  I read one chaper for one of my classes three times!  And I am pretty sure I still managed to fail the quiz!  I hate not understanding what I am reading.
  • My compressed work day is Wednesday so I have a three day work week!
  • I have not eaten the best recently.  I really need to get back on that.  Luckly I have not gained any weight from it...yet.
  • We gave our kittens a bath on Sunday...what an adventure.  Let's just say they use to play in the empty, dry bath tub all the time and they haven't been back in it since they had thier first bath adventure.
  • I need a new hobby, espcially when school gets out.  Any ideas?
  • We are staying home this weekend.  Two weekends in a row-pretty sure that is a record for us!
  • I'm pretty sure I am watching too much reality team.  I heart DVR.
  • My bank sent away our change to be counted because they no longer have a change counter.  Well 2 months later and I still don't have my money!  They THINK it went into someone else's account and are trying to locate it and it may take 10 business days.  I think I will find another way to cash in my change in the future.
  • It has finally warmed up in good ol' WV.  Well if you think 40-50 degrees is warm.  It's better than 20.
  • I have had some great conversations recently with some friends that live away and it has been great to catch up with them.  It  is nice to still remain close with a lot of my college friends and I hope it always stays like that.
  • I really need to get better at using the camera and taking more pictures.
That's all for now:)

Funk

Monday again?  Weekends just go by too quick.  We had a great weekend.  It was nice to have a relaxing getaway with friends.  However, I am glad we are back home and have no plans for the upcoming weekend.

For the past couple of days I have not been feeling like myself.  I am in some sort of funk.  Today hasn't been the best and I am sure one of those factors is that I could not sleep last night.  I finally got to bed sometime after 1am and woke up constantly.  I had the weirdest thoughts and dreams.

I think another part of my probelm is that I start back to school this week.  I have NEVER dreaded going to class so much in my life.  The only positive is that it is my last semester.  I have a complete "who cares" attitude.  I have a feeling it is going to be a LONG 16 weeks!

Anyways, Happy Monday!

Friday!

It's Friday!  And due to the snow my work was delayed so I got to lay in bed and watch the Today show for a little bit.

This evening we are packing up and heading to the Greenbrier for the weekend.  I am kind of excited to do a getaway.  They were running a great special for the winter months so we got a great price on the room.  We are also doing a bunker tour and going on a horse drawn sleigh ride!  I have been to the Greenbrier several times for lunch and the husband worked there in the summers for about 6 years.  However, I have never stayed there.  I think we have a nice getaway without breaking the bank too bad.  We also have some good friends going with us so we will have good company too.

I'm kind of  worried about the snow though.  Three weeks ago we were going to my in-laws house on Friday evening which is close to the Greenbrier.  The drive normally takes 3 hours.  We left at 4pm and at 6pm we got stuck in traffic due to accidents.  16 and a half hours later we were moving again!  It sure was an experience.  We finally got a hotel room on Saturday afternoon and made it the remaining hour drive on Sunday morning.  Let's just hope the snow is kinder to us this time around and we make it to and back safely without a nights stay in the truck!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Christmas Decor

So I know it is January and my Christmas decorations and tree have been down for over a week now, but I am just getting around to posting some of my Christmas decorations.  We didn't do too much this year because we were not home much in December.  But, without further do, welcome to my home!

Corner cabniet in dinning room

Table in living room

Nativity that I have had since I was a littl girl

I love snowmen!

Snowmen tree

Tree

So now it all away until next year.  However, I do leave some of the snowmen stuff up (including the snowmen tree) during the winter.  But maybe if I put them away all this snow and freezing wheather would go away??

Good TV Time

The best part about the holidays being over is that good TV is back on!!  I hate the lulls between seasons.  I have gotten a collection of shows over time and could not watch them all without DVR and them being commercial free.

This is my current list:

Monday-The Bachelor; Cake Boss
Tuesday-Biggest Loser
Wednesday-Mercy
Thursday-Grey's; Private Practice

I will say I have come to be a sucker for reality TV.  In the past I have liked Dacing With The Stars but kind of fell off the band wagon last season.  And I am also a fan of American Idol.  Not sure what I am going to do when it comes back on because I think it will be TV overload!

What are your favorite shows?

A New Year

Happy New Year!!

2009 was a good year and it flew by!  Some highlights:
  • The husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary!  What a great first year!
  • I started and completed 6 graduate classes-only 2 left before I have my MBA!
  • The husband and I took a cruise and had a blast.  I can't wait to go on another one!
  • Was Matron of Honor in my friend Rachel's wedding.  It was a lot of fun and so nice to see a friend that is so happy.
  • Did a lot of traveling to see family.  I believe we were gone at least one, usually more, weekend each month.  It can ware a person out that is for sure, but we do enjoy visiting our family.
  • Spent a day on the lake with some friends.  This was a first for me.  I got to water tube and had a failed attempt at water skiing.
I have a few goals for 2010:
  • Complete my MBA
  • Do several weekend trips and one nice vacation with the husband
  • Do several home improvement projects around the house including new carpet in the bedrooms, finish replacing all baseboards and update all doorknobs and door hinges
  • Continue working out and reach my weight loss goal
  • Grow in my faith
  • Watch our spending on groceries and eating out to work towards our goal of saving more each month
  • Do something "fun" each month.  We have January (weekend getaway) and February (concert) planned already.
So not really any resolutions per say but just some goals to look at as we head into another year.  Here is to a great year!
